Cindra’s POV
A knock sounded on my door, and I prayed to the Goddess that whoever was on the other side would just go away. I curled up on my side, tears sliding down my face and wetting my coarse pillows. The door closed quietly, and I felt someone getting closer.
I knew it wasn’t Helio, so I muttered, “Please go away.”
“I got some harsher soap,” Kalinda said, sitting on the edge of my bed. “It’s really not that bad… though Cole suggested lemon and vinegar.”
I sniffled. “Scarlett got it off.”
“Well, that’s great.” She placed her hand on my head. “Meri’s really… well, she’s a piece of work, but I promise I’ll deal with her properly.”
“It’s not just Meri,” I sniffled. “It’s not even Meri. She’s just… a symptom. It’s… It’s…”
“The wedding?” Kalinda asked.
A fresh sob escaped me. “She’ll be……
