Knox’s POV
“We’ll need more firewood, won’t we?” I asked. It wasn’t really a question.
Aira looked at the supply next to the hearth and nodded. “It’ll be wet, so it’ll be smoky, but we’re going to need it.”
“I’ll go get some.” I shifted to go brave the cold.
She frowned at me. “Just how do you propose to get it? I didn’t see many fallen trees, and they would mostly be buried under the snow, anyway.”
‘I’ll figure something out,’ I said over the mind-link. ‘Watch over Aaron and Blanche. I’ll be back.’
“Knox, I don’t think it’s a good idea,” she murmured, but I ignored her. I needed some alone time to process everything, and having Aira around, getting my dander up, was not helping.
“Fine, then! Get yourself killed! See if I care!” she called after me, illustrating exactly why I needed to get aw……
