Exhaustion turned my peripheral vision into a dark haze. I took a few quick steps away from Cindra, remembering what had happened the last time I got too close. The pain in my face served as a stark reminder of all that had led me to that tower to free her.
Maybe I should have left her there, but the thought of her being trapped like a prisoner turned my stomach. She would have starved and froze within a few days, given how cold it was getting.
What was my mother thinking, putting her in the tower of all places? If the Topraks came back for her, they’d be even more pissed than when they’d left.
