Cindra’s POV

After Helio left, scurrying down the hall with the only evidence I had to prove that I was Aspen Caldwell, I shuffled to my bed, climbed under the covers, and wished that sleep would come.

It didn’t.

I thought about Jack’s easy smile and the sisters that he cared so much for. I imagined what he would say about me—what he would have said about me if we had grown up together.

There had been so much taken from me, so much more that was still out of my reach, and my future was more uncertain now than ever. I closed my eyes, sniffling as I let myself imagine what it would have been like to grow up as Jack’s little sister, to be Olwen and Bianca’s eldest daughter.
