Aira’s POV
I frowned at Knox’s assessment of Winter Harvest but couldn’t really disagree with him at the moment. It had been so much easier coming this way when the snow hadn’t been so deep than it was returning, even if we were now headed downhill. But we couldn’t have waited in the cottage for the snow to pack itself down. We needed to get home.
‘Help!’ I called again, hoping someone would hear.
‘Aira?’ came a distant reply.
‘Jack!’ I yipped happily as did Blanche, and we did a little dance in the snow. ‘Jack, we took the wooded way to Mount Fall. We’re about halfway home!’
‘Stay there. Go into the trees for shelter and huddle up. We’ll bring sleighs,’ Jack said.
‘Did someone hear you?’ Knox asked.
‘Jack! Jack’s coming!’ I responded. ‘Come on, let’s get back to the trees.’
