A Raging King

Helio’s POV

Kora floated out of the temple after Queen Araceli in a rush of wind. I looked at the priest, who seemed just as troubled as before. He stared back at me with his mouth hanging open before turning and leaving.

Relief flooded my veins. It had worked. It felt ridiculous for me to be nervous in hindsight. All the signs were there, pointing toward the fact that Kora was not my mate. I turned toward my family. Kalinda grinned at me, and Cindra looked as relieved as I felt.

I offered her a small, shaky smile. It was done. Then, I felt the air heat. I went stiff. My mother looked frozen in place, fear and worry on her face. My siblings stared at my father, and the king glared at me. His face flushed red, but his expression was placid.

A warning went off in the back of my mind.
