I kept underestimating him. Did I really think that he wasn’t going to know that there was something in my hand? Especially after I opened it before him? He was very observant, as earlier occasions showed, and barely anything skipped his notice.
What was I going to tell him? How was I going to get away with not letting him know that Jax was contacting me through letters? Who knew what he was going to do when he found out that this was not the first, but rather, the second letter from Jax? Was he going to punish his men for not letting him know about the letters?
“It’s just, uh, a grocery list that I made.”
His brows shot up. “A grocery list?”
Why did I say that? I should have come up with something more believable. A grocery list? Not even a child was going to believe that excuse of a ……
