“Why would you want the letter to be redirected from the king? Is there something you would like to confess to now that you have the chance?”
How did we get to that point? Okay, it was fast becoming obvious that I needed to take a few steps backward mentally by putting a lid on the conversation that we were having as soon as possible. He was misconstruing what I said, but I understood why. It was a bit suspicious, so I took a calming breath and prepared myself to explain while my mind worked in overdrive to come up with something sensible.
“No, of course not. I was just thinking that the king has a lot on his table and he may not want to be disturbed by something as mundane as a letter. I mean, he did put you and the rest of the guards at the gate for a reason. He must have trusted y……
