Alethea's determination was palpable, a fire burning within her. But I knew she harbored doubts. Who wouldn't?
"Hey," I said, breaking the silence. "Has Kaiden been bothering you?"
Alethea shook her head. "No, I haven't seen him since the party. It's been...refreshing."
I nodded, my jaw clenching. "You won't have to deal with him. I'll make sure of it."
Alethea's eyes met mine, gratitude flickering within them.
As I gazed at her, thoughts swirled in my head. Thoughts I could never voice.
Why was I so invested in protecting her?
Was it just duty?
Or something more?
My reflection was interrupted by the shrill ring of my phone.
I glanced at the caller ID: "Luna."
