Even though she expected it, Rhys’ words still reverberate around her head. She takes an unconscious step back, still staring at that face that she has seen once a month for as long as she can remember. That face she sees there is the same and maybe before seeing this she would have believed that she was a happy person, except, of course, for that last day.
But looking at the happiness possible on that face, she realizes the person she thought she knew wasn’t even close to happy, the person she thought she knew. Knew? That is the biggest joke in the world. She knew nothing at all, even her name. She didn’t even know her real name.
How did she not know this?
How could she not question the one person beside her?
She knows as many details as she can get on Queen Clara, all very formulaic, like……
