In the crowd, Sarah’s bitter heart is twisting as she watches Alaric and Alicia dancing once again. She has seen that look on the man enough times to know that Alicia has won him over for the night. She looks beside her at the other two women who are wearing much the same sour expression as she is. She feels it so much more, it is easy for them to be forgotten, in their places it is expected and it has happened so many times before that they should be used to the bitter disappointment, but for her the fall has been from such high heights that the landing has been rough.
She didn’t expect to be thrown out at this late stage and when he allowed her to attend with him, she thought that everything was good and Cody’s strange behavior had not affected her too much. She was wrong.
