Luna
I drifted back to consciousness slowly, awareness coming in fragments. First, the soft bed beneath me. Then, the lingering ache in my abdomen. Finally, the warm pressure of someone holding my hand.
Kane.
My eyes fluttered open to find him sitting beside my bed, his large frame hunched over in a way that made him look smaller, vulnerable. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and his usual pristine appearance was disheveled, as if he'd been running his hands through his hair repeatedly.
"The baby?" I whispered, fear making my voice crack.
"Safe," he said quickly, squeezing my hand. "The healer said you just need rest. No permanent damage was done."
Relief flooded through me, so intense it brought tears to my eyes. My free hand went to my stomach, and I sent a silent thank you to the Moon Goddess.
