“This isn’t what I wanted,” I murmured under my breath as I trailed behind the head maid.
You wanted to keep your head down, Moon replied dryly. Guess that’s out the window now.
My heart felt heavy with dread as we walked through the grand hallways of the Moon Palace. So much for staying unnoticed. I clutched my hands tightly in front of me to stop them from trembling. Every step felt like a march toward a fate I wasn’t ready to face.
s**t. It seemed my hell was just beginning.
The head maid stopped at an ornate door and knocked twice before pushing it open. Inside was a luxurious room filled with shelves of neatly folded uniforms, shining silver trays, and vials of expensive oils and perfumes. Behind a desk sat a stern-looking woman who radiated authority.
