The crystal from Kane pulsed against my chest where I'd hidden it, a constant reminder of what was at stake. Darren and I had waited until well past midnight check of the old passages, when most of the pack would be asleep.
"Ready?" Darren whispered, helping me move the heavy storage shelf that concealed the entrance.
I nodded, though my heart raced. "The night patrol?"
"Marcus has them focused on the north wing. We should have at least an hour."
The entrance was smaller than I'd expected – barely more than a crack in the ancient stone walls. Dust and cobwebs suggested it hadn't been used in years, despite Sarah's occasional storage claims.
Careful, Moon warned as I slipped inside. Many dangers in old places.
She was right. My hybrid senses picked up traces of old magic lingering in the ston……
