"Thank you," I say to the man who hands me more blankets before continuing from where I left off. I'm still tending to an injured crew member when I feel someone grab me by my dress from behind. I turn to find an elderly woman asking if the ship is sinking.
"N-n-no," I stammer, turning fully to face her. The terror in her eyes haunts me as I try to reassure her that the ship is not sinking, despite my own fear and the certainty that the look in my eyes is just as frightening as hers. But she’s already got it bad enough, so I crouch to her level, taking her hand. But before I can say anything else, the crew rushes in with life jackets, shattering the facade I was trying to put up.
Their expressions are tense, and their movements are quick as they instruct everyone to put jackets on. They ……
