AUTHOR’S POV
Lucas walks into the hospital lobby, exhaustion setting in as he approaches the receptionist. He says his name, and she has been expecting him since he spoke with the nurse. "Please have a seat," she asks. "A nurse will come down shortly."
Sighing, he settles into one of the waiting chairs, and his body feels heavy as the alcohol from earlier wears off, leaving a dull fatigue. It’s just after 2 a.m., and the forty-five-minute drive was brutal. He could barely concentrate on the road, and all he wants is to be home with his family, but after hearing about the ship, he couldn't leave.
The elevator dings and a nurse steps out, exchanging a few words with the receptionist before heading toward Lucas. He pushes himself up, rubbing a hand over his face as she moves forward.
