I shake my head. “No. Not to me.” I’m taken aback by the question. Is Nina claiming to have been in a relationship with Channing? I mean, I know Channing was doing the most, but I hope he wasn’t doing that much.
Miller ends up having another biscuit, and he eventually confesses to my mom that he’s blown away by them. We wrap up the case-related questions, and the atmosphere shifts.
It’s been a while since we last talked. Miller and I have crossed paths numerous times in our line of work. He began his career as a detective around the same time I began practicing law. We handled our first cases at the same time, so there’s always been a sense of mutual respect.
We chat for a bit, catching up, before he finally gets up to leave. My mom hands him a small bag. “For the road.” And Miller looks ……
