I watch them as they leave the hall, Mika’s hand in Channing’s, their heads close like they’re sharing a private joke.
My eyes follow them until they disappear into the crowd, and even then, I don’t blink, my chest tight and my stomach twisted.
A tug on my arm pulls me back, and I look up to see Nina standing, her lips pressed into a thin line, her expression unreadable but her body language screaming. “I’m ready to leave,” she says quietly, her voice laced with something sharp and cold, and I nod and stand, following her without a word.
I hurt her tonight, so I do not need to ask why she is acting this way. I caught myself staring at Mika more times than I could count. And each time, Nina caught me.
I didn’t mean to. I don’t even understand why I did it. It’s not like I still have feeling……
