AUTHOR’S POV
Lucas thanks the driver before exiting the car and closing the door behind him. His mind returns to Nina. They need to talk before the night is over, and as he approaches his door, he reaches to enter his password—but then he stops.
His alarm is deactivated, and he frowns, wondering who might be inside. Or did he forget to activate it before leaving with the cops? He must have. Pushing open the door, he steps inside and turns on the lights.
Just then, something pierces his ribs. Sending deep, searing agony through his body. Pivoting, a loud groan rips through his chest, but before he can register what is going on, another stab comes, followed by another as Nina launches a food attack on him.
