"Father--" The slap echoed throughout the small sheriff's office. Sheriff Preston Cotter was considered a big man around town and not someone you could flex on-- unless you were his father, Richard Cotter.
Richard Cotter was a large and imposing man. He was one of the three top founding family heads and used his reputation to ensure his will was followed without question. Most were unaware of a power struggle in the town, and the Cotters were in the mix. Things were getting out of hand, potentially hurting Richard Cotter's chances of finishing on top.
"Don't father me, you i***t!" Richard growled.
"I just meant--"
"I know what you meant. You meant to try to defuse the situation with me but not handle the situation out there," Richard gestured to the town outside the off……
