Rita Fuller pulled her long, thick cardigan closer to her body.
The wind was picking up, and she had a long walk home.
She wished her car wasn’t still at the mechanics' on nights like this. She was sure the Cotter family was delaying the parts from coming in. After all, it doesn't take a month for a starter to come in. She'd seen how typically cars are in and out of Jones Mechanic Shop, but not her little Ford Focus. Why Richard was still invested in disrupting her life was beyond her, but she wouldn’t make waves. She’d become the master of ‘turning the other cheek’ and moving on.
Don’t feed the bully's satisfaction. That’s what her father used to say when she was just a child. That was decades ago, but bullies never seem to grow out of it, do they?
She picked up her pace to get home……
