Connie lay with her arm stretched across Alex's bare chest. She was not the type to be close or intimate with anyone, especially soon after meeting, but there was something about her dashing hero. He pulled her in and broke down those barriers she spent years building to keep the world out.
Connie remembered when the recruitment email came to her. She couldn't find much out about the university, but she'd never been to British Columbia, and it was far away from her toxic family and her trauma reminders.
Connie didn't expect to meet her friends. That wasn't part of the plan. Keep your head down, study hard, and don't allow anyone in. From constant experiences throughout her life, Connie learned that when she needed help, you could only rely on yourself and self-preserve.
