Sierra’s POV
Finally, he broke it.
“I’m sorry,” he said, his voice low. “I should’ve been there.”
I shook my head. “It’s not your fault, your mother handled it.”
He looked away, his jaw tight. “Zoe… she has no right to treat you that way.”
“Why did you forgive her?” The question slipped out before I could stop it. I hadn’t meant to sound accusatory, but I needed to know.
Jayden’s eyes flickered with something I couldn’t quite read. “It’s complicated,” he muttered. “Her father… he’s influential, and—”
I cut him off, a surge of frustration bubbling up. “So it’s politics? That’s why she gets away with everything?”
He didn’t answer, and that silence said more than words ever could. My heart sank. It was one thing to deal with Zoe’s cruelty, but knowing she was shielded by power made it feel so much wo……
