Neither the pleas of the crowd nor Astrid's cries changed Delilah's mind. The thought of having Davies to himself motivated the woman to annihilate the first wife.
With her head bowed down, Astrid anticipated the sword's fine edge to hack her head off. Just when Delilah swung her sword to do the same, a loud cry urged her to stop.
An offended Delilah whirled around to look at her displeased husband. The man charged inside the mansion and asked the crowd, "What's happening in my absence? Do you guys have the authority to take actions without the emperor's consent?"
He suggested the guards take the sword away from Delilah while taking Astrid inside a chamber and provide her with a change of clothes. The emperor's demands baffled the crowd and Delilah alike.
