Chapter 8: Broken Queen

Ruby

I was being pounded from behind by Dominic, he had been stressed out lately, but our intimacy was special to us, he slapped my ass groaning, feeling him deep inside me. The ball was tonight, and I knew that he was on edge with the Ice Queen scheduled to arrive soon. Later, I was showing everyone where things would go, the elders were making sure they had everything for the ritual, and I knew Aremia was Dom's destined mate. He never hid that from me, however, he said, the bond is non-existent because they strained their bond to the point she hated everything about him. Dom's mark on my neck would sever any mate bond I would have, so I was also his mate, two teenagers who met and fell in love, our bond is genuinely built on love and respect. I love him more than anything and I will never betray his trust in me, that's why I was so disappointed in Pax. Raven eventually got mated with Dom's third-in-command, Desi, as he left the second-in-command spot for his brother Allan, who took over last year. We had a few rough years after the demise of Aremia, Dom had to come to terms that this destined mate betrayed him and chose to be away from him.

The Ball

I went down the stairs and saw Dom waiting for me, he looked so elegant, and I smiled, I saw my sons talking with their friends and our little one talking with her grandmother and Uncle Desi. We greeted our friends and allies of the court, the stage was set, and we waited, Dom and I got the link when Aremia's carriage pulled up, and Dom kissed my cheek, calming my nerves. Everyone waited, we knew she was close as the fire dimmed, and we felt a bit chilly, Dom warmed the room again, the doors opened, and she stood there looking around. Her hair was longer, it touched the edge of her hips, it was still ice blue and her eyes looked glassy, the dress was beautiful, and her necklace was fit for a Queen. She walked slowly into the room holding her head high, everyone watched her closely in awe, I felt jealous seeing how Dom looked at her, however, I knew better.

Dominic

I had been stressed about how to handle the situation with Aremia, once I knew she was back, I waited for her, and I visited her every day for the past twenty years, hoping she would finally let me in. When I got the news months back that the ice was smelting, and I could cross over, I made sure the Palace was clean, and I watched her for months while she slept. I knew she was going to wake up when I heard her moan, so I went down and prepared lunch for her. Theo was excited that she was finally going to wake up and give us a chance to fix ourselves, I admitted that I missed Aremia, the fire in her eyes as an ice dragon when she is passionate about what she believed in, it made me feel butterflies in my stomach. I pictured the few nights we made love, it was magical bonding together before I was brought out of my thoughts when it was time.

Aremia stared at Ruby and everyone picked up the tension, I cleared my throat and said, "Begin," I tried to feel our bond but nothing, the elders started, and she slowly knelt with her head bowed in front of me. I wanted to reach out and touch her, I looked at Ruby who kept her eyes on Aremia, ready to protect me if she had to. I could feel her distrust of the Ice Queen, but all of us had reason to distrust her. Aremia said her apologies to the people and cut her hand bleeding into the bowl, but something didn't feel right, and I saw Aremia's tail come from under her dress and she grabbed the high elder, raising him off the floor. She yells, "Do you think you can bind my power? I will take this kingdom if I have to, don't you dare f*****g push me," throwing him out the window." She looked at me disappointed and reverted to her human self, I mind-linked my brother to arrest the elders, they turned against me, I yelled, "Mia wait!"

I felt the fear of everyone in the room when my daughter ran in front of her and said, "You are a pretty dragon," everyone froze when Ruby yelled, "Dom!" I silenced everyone and Aremia stooped to my daughter's level and said, "Thank you, Princess, you are pretty yourself," Theo loved the way Aries handled it. Our daughter was not in danger, Seria played with Aremia's hair, I felt how uneasy Ruby was, and I said, "Seria, go to your mother," she said, "Okay Daddy," kissing Mia on her cheek. Aremia touched her cheek, her eyes were lost in space, and she turned to look up at me, I saw tears in her eyes and she got up and fled, flying back to Palace Two. I looked at Ruby, and she nodded for me to go, I jumped out the window and took off after her, but she didn't head to Place Two, she went to the cave, I had it barred years ago.

It was dark, but we could see in the dark, I saw Aremia look at the area where she last saw her son, she smelled the blanket closing her eyes. She mind-linked me, "You don't have to follow me around, I will go back to the Palace away from everyone, I am not a threat." I could hear the sadness in her voice, she looked at me and said, "Your daughter is beautiful," I smiled and told her about her and my sons, I lit the lanterns in the cave, and she covered her body. I said, "It's a little too late for that," she smiled saying, "I guess it is," I asked, "What happened back there?" I felt a cold breeze realizing her power was linked to her mood, she said, "They were planning to bind my power, they are afraid of me and I don't blame them, I am the first of my kind." I apologized for what they tried to do, and she blew it off saying, "It doesn't matter, I will be in my castle most of the time."

I held her hand and she looked at it, I lifted her chin to look at me, and her eyes were different, I could tell she was dead inside, I said, "I want to fix this between us." I placed my hand on her heart, and she let the tears flow, she tried to back away from me and my tail wrapped around her stopping her in her tracks. She said between sobs, "There is nothing to fix, you moved on with your life and I have to rebuild mine. I made mistakes and I have to live with that, but you won, Dom." I asked, "What did I win when I couldn't have you?" She sighed and said, "I just want to be alone and go back to the Palace that has been my home for twenty years," she closed her eyes and whispered, "Twenty years." I touched her face and she leaned into my hand, I wiped her tears and whispered, "Give us a chance, please."

Aremia

I didn't know what to expect when I arrived at Palace One, I was nervous because I was an outsider who had been released from prison, Aries snickered and said, "They will try some bullshit." I agree with her, I don't trust Dominic or his family, he only cares about his precious Ruby, I hate that we are mated to him. The carriage pulled up for us, although it was a lot quicker in dragon form, I wanted to at least make an impression, since coming back. I looked at the scenery, and it seemed to have changed a lot in twenty years, it was different since I last saw it. I loved my Palace and I hated leaving it, I had tried going into town since I came back but all I got was stares and hearing the whispers, I was a treasonous b***h for some and a w***e for others. They loved Ruby and Dominic was a well respected King, I pulled up to the gate and I felt like something was going to happen.

I saw Dominic's second in command smile at me, he held out his hand for me to take and help me out of the carriage, he said, "Hi, I am Allanmire." I looked at him and smiled, I last saw him when he was a baby, now he has grown up, he said, "I have heard stories," I was surprised he knew about me. He said, "Mother wants to talk to you after the ritual and, as you know, my father died about fifteen years ago." I said, "I've heard, and I am sorry," he said, "No worries," leading me to a big door, it opened and my mood changed. I saw everyone looking at me, Ruby stared into my eyes and I returned the favor, Dominic looked at me with a smile, but I went there to get his over with. I knew Ruby was uneasy and so was I, I was the other woman, but little did she know, I didn't want her mate, the ritual began, I chanted my vows and apologized for my wrongdoing, but something felt off, this was a trap.

I saw the way everyone looked at me like some freak except for Allan, he was fasinated, they tricked me and I needed to leave, I will never trust anything Dom has to say. They were lucky I didn't kill the stupid elder as I headed to the door to go home, they party was over for me, I stopped seeing this beautiful little girl in front of me, saying, "You are a pretty dragon." I smiled, she didn't seem scared of me and I stooped to her level, I heard Ruby yell for Dominic, they actually thought I would hurt a child. I said, "Thank you, Princess, you are pretty yourself," playing with her hair like she did mine, her father sent her away, and I thought about my son. I looked at Dominic as he stood next to me, I couldn't take pity when I knew he was the reason for all my pain. I got up and ran toward the balcony changing into my dragon, heading to my cave, my sanctuary, the one place I felt safe when I first came to this land.

I remember the good times I spent here with Paxson, he was my friend, lover and the one in my heart, I hope he finds happiness with my son. I hope he finds someone to love and cherish him like I did, and my son had a great life with his new mother, I felt Dominic behind me, but I was too done with him to care. He tried to comfort me in my broken moment, he told me about his kids as I told him what I last saw of my son. I hated that it felt so natural to talk to him right now, I hated that we are destined mates. He wanted us to fix things between us, but there was nothing to fix, too much had happened between us, I honestly believe that, our destinies were on different paths. He was better for the kingdom with Ruby at his side and his kids love him, I deserve to be alone in my Palace away from everyone until the day I die, so I can wait for my son to see him again.

I tried to leave, but he kissed my lips, we started dancing like there was music playing, he linked me, 'You owe me a dance, Aremia." I rested my head on his chest listening to his heartbeat, his wings wrapped around me, I felt his hard-on poke my stomach and I smiled because he was such a pervert. I looked into his eyes as he kissed me again, it felt like fireworks going off, and I moaned in his mouth, we breathed heavily as he laid me down on the old make-shift bed.
