A Long Time Ago...

Prince Dominic

I looked at Ruby and pulled her into my arms, we had decided to spend a few short hours together by the lake, it was quiet here, and no one was around at that hour. I saw the cold mountains in the background where the ice dragons lived, we could never see eye to eye with them because they hated the idea of being under one rule. My father was known as the King of Dragonmare and Lomario was the rising head of Ice Peak, the ice dragon city. My father's territory was called Firemare, where all fire dragons roam, after making love on the embankment, we woke up to the sun going down. I escorted her back to the Palace and realized my father wanted to see me, I kissed her cheek and my father smiled and asked, "When do you want the mating?" I looked at my mother behind him who smiled happily when I said, "Soon Father, but let's talk about why you called me here."

We were on the brink of civil war, and Lomario wouldn't listen to why this move was the best thing for us to live in harmony. However, he felt he should be king and not my father, he had killed one of our messengers and my father requested a sit-down but learned he was marching his armies to our doors. I was furious, and he ordered me, "Get your men and prepare for battle, we will have your mating and coronation once we win." I was excited because now I can rule and take my kingdom to new heights with my future Queen, Ruby, at my side. I headed out with my best friend Paxon, we have been friends since we were hatchlings, he was one of my generals in the army, and I trusted him with my life. We took two days to meet the Ice Dragons on the battlefield, I had my love, waiting for me back home, and I was going to go home to her.

The war went on for about two weeks, we lost dragons on both sides, some fought in their dragon form and others in human form, we breached the ice dragon camp. Lomario surrendered, promising to surrender and save his people if he let them live instead of wiping them out for treason. We had won the war and my father was going to behead him and bring the dragons under one rule, but his second in command said, "Please, Your Majesty, don't kill us, I can offer up my daughter to your son as a treaty between us and promise to follow your rule. We don't need to continue to fight anymore, we can have a truce, and dragons will never fight against each other again." My father looked at me and I linked him, "Don't do this, I love Ruby," he looked at Lomario and asked, "Where are my men you have imprisoned?"

Pax said, "We found them, he killed all of them," my father cut his second-in-command's head off in his anger, he looked at me and said, "You will marry his daughter, no excuse." Lomario bowed, and his men followed, accepting my father as their king, the war was over and we buried the dead. My heart hurt, but I thought about it and went into a tent while we waited, I was summoned when a decision had been formally made, Lomario's niece, her father, killed by my father in the war, would be the peace treaty between us. I said, "Father, I can't hurt Ruby...," he cut me off and said, "That's an order, it's a sacrifice for our people, she will understand and if she doesn't, you can make her your mistress, after the mating, I will step down and hand over the new kingdom to you." I was furious, and I left him standing there, Paxon followed and asked, "What will happen to you and Ruby?"

I looked at him and said, "It's done, I will have to break the news to her, but she will be taken care of once I am king," he agreed with me and my father's decision. Royalty doesn't always get what we want, arranged marriages happen for the good of the people and I have a duty to them. We marched back to Ice Peak so Lomario could give the news to his people, his people were not happy but bent their knees, we acknowledged, and then I saw the woman to who I was betrothed. She ran out and slapped me in my face crying, and yelled, "You killed him," my guards went to hold her and I stopped them. She went to hit me again, and I grabbed her hand and I said, "I would advise you not to do that again as I am your future king and husband." She screamed, "Never, you will never have me," I had her taken back to her room, she was visibly upset, and I felt bad, looking at my father, she was under the watchful eyes of my guards so she doesn't do something stupid.

Back at Firemare

We returned to our Palace and I had a room prepared for the future Queen, she was feisty, and she hated me, but I didn't care either way. I needed to talk to Ruby but decided to drop in on our guest of honor, I had the guard leave from at the door, and she looked at me and asked, "What are you doing here, Your Highness?" She wore black mourning her father and I didn't blame her, I said, "I am sorry about your father, but that happens when you go to war." She looked at me and her eyes got cold, and she yelled, "f**k you, demon, I may have to mate you, but you will never have my body, heart, or spirit." I smiled and said, "I won't need them until it's time for you to give me an heir as part of the treaty," she raised her hand again, and I grabbed it pulling her to me as I placed my hand around her tiny waist, breathing down her neck and inhaled. I whispered, "Relax, I know you are angry, but we have to make the most of it," she pulled back before I left her alone, the wedding would be in two days.

Ruby

I sat in my room crying after hearing the news of Dominic getting betrothed to Lady Aremia, she was considered a Princess in Ice Peak and now, I was losing Dominic. I heard a knock on the door, but I refused to answer, I closed my eyes and I felt the bed dip, I knew it was him. He kissed my forehead and I turned to face him and hugged him tightly, not wanting to be away from him, he explained what had happened and why he would be mating, Aremia. I hated it and I kissed him, feeling possessive of the Dragon Prince, he kissed me back and our kisses got intense, and he got on top of me. My dragon hated her already because she was taking him away from us, but I couldn't do or say anything to offend her without consequences. I got some water and knew she smelled Dominic on me since I saw her facial expression when I got close to her, she said, "So, you are his whore." I turned to her, and said, "No, I am the one he loves, you are his bed warmer until you give him a hatchling," walking out. It hurt what she called me and I decided to take Dominic up on his offer so I could annoy the future Queen.
