“What was that?” My heart lurched upon hearing the blood-curdling wail.
The eerie scream seemed to draw everyone’s attention. Petra fearfully clung to my arm, and then she spoke, “I don’t like this.”
“Don’t worry! Maybe the person might’ve screamed upon seeing a bug or something else filthy,” suggested Holly rather calmly.
"Are you kidding me? There's something wrong. Let's go and see for ourselves," Elijah mouthed exactly what I was thinking.
In a frenzy, we ran to get closer to the source of the sound. With every step, my heart pounded in my chest. Even though I was hoping for the wail to be out of something ordinary, I somehow felt that it wasn't the case.
Nevertheless, we moved forward to witness whatever sinister awaited us. Since Petra was terrified, she kept holding my hand.
