Elijah and Joseph dug a grave, right next to where Billy was hanged. The reason for doing so was the weight of the dead corpse. They knew they wouldn’t be able to carry it far without damaging the body.
Just when they put him into the cavity dug by toil, I felt a heavyweight on my chest. It didn’t feel right to see him treated like an animal.
It was just the previous day when I had wished death upon Billy. Now that I was eying his corpse, I couldn’t help but feel sad. Although we all experienced agony from his death, none of us cried. This was the first time that had happened at someone’s funeral. Lack of city wasn’t the reason. I believe it was more of a relief that the others felt because Billy had preyed upon others as well. His death would mean one less hunter among us.
