Less than half an hour had passed before David returned with the pregnancy test and, as soon as he walked through the door, Elizabeth snatched the bag out of his hands. Pulling the box out, she threw it at Jenny and said, “Stand up! Go to the bathroom!”
Jenny took Steven’s hand and they stood together. The bathroom was only a half dozen steps away but, as they took them, they felt as though they were walking the green mile. They were almost there when Elizabeth stepped forward. She said, “I don’t trust Steven. I will go in!”
Steven turned on his mother. “f**k that!” he roared.
William could see that they were both ready to fight so before they got to it, he said, “Neither of you will go in. Lucy will. She is not invested in the outcome, so neither party should object.”
Steven and Elizabeth……
