Maria took the bandages off and looked at her face in the mirror. There was less puss then there had been the day before, which was good, and the rancid smell had all but disappeared. She knew that this was good but, as she faced herself, she also knew that nothing would ever be good again. Her life was ruined, and all because Frank’s wife had taken it upon herself to spray her with sulfuric acid.
Maria, who’s face had once graced movie posters, was no longer fit for work, except, maybe, as some kind of monster, or perhaps as Deadpool’s wife. The thought made her laugh. And then it made her cry. Now that she was ugly, even Frank had abandoned her. He hadn’t gone to see her in the hosp……
