AT THE SAME TIME
ISABELLA'S POINT OF VIEW:
I felt like I was waking up from a deep, heavy sleep, but something was off. My head was pounding, and my body felt like it had been run over by a truck. When I finally managed to open my eyes, I saw the familiar ceiling of the hospital room above me, but something was different. I wasn’t alone. I turned my head slowly, and the first thing I saw was Xavier. He was sitting by my bedside, his face pale but still holding that familiar intensity. His eyes were locked on me, filled with concern, but there was something else, something like guilt.
"Isabella?" His voice was rough, barely a whisper, but it felt like it was shaking me awake.
I blinked, trying to clear the fog in my mind.
"Xavier?" My voice came out weak, like I hadn’t used it in ages.
