AT THE SAME TIME
ISABELLA'S POINT OF VIEW:
I watched Xavier, still lying in bed, his breathing shallow but steady. His body was recovering, but the toll it had taken on him was still so visible. He kept pushing himself as if he didn’t want to admit how fragile he was right now. And it hurt me to see him like this. I couldn’t just sit here and do nothing. I had to help him. I needed to do something, anything to make him feel better. But I wasn’t a doctor, and I didn’t want to make things worse. I reached for my phone, my fingers trembling slightly as I dialed Terrence’s number. He was the one person I could rely on to help me figure out what to do. He had been so helpful already, guiding me through this ordeal with Xavier’s health in the hospital.
