The steam of the shower had more than turned cold. I was putting it off for as long as possible, but the truth remained that no matter how long I stayed there, it would not change the thoughts running through my mind or the time it would take for Darcel to return—if he returned.
My reluctance to leave the bathroom only postponed sleep; it did not change anything else, and knowing that made me wrap my hair and body in fluffy towels, use skincare that I had no idea how to use, brush my teeth, and leave the comforts of the delusion I had built around what I was doing here, exchanging it for the much sadder reality that awaited me in the bedroom.
The wolves' lonesome calls rumbled through the cracks of the balcony doors, magnifying the sounds of the soft rainstorm that had……
