RUBY JUNE
“The people of this pack have gathered here today to witness the execution of those who committed treason,” the announcer’s voice boomed, echoing through the courtyard. My stomach twisted as the weight of his words sank in. Genesis and I were the traitors, marked for death by Bruno’s hand.
The wide gates creaked open, and I felt a shove from behind, forcing me and Genesis into the middle of the courtyard. The crowd stood around us in a ring, their faces a mixture of apathy, curiosity, and satisfaction. They wanted a show, and Bruno was all too happy to give it to them.
I lifted my eyes and found Bruno seated on a makeshift throne at the front of the pack, watching us with that same sly, twisted smile I had come to hate. His eyes gleamed with satisfaction as the chains around ……
