Lilyan's alarm sounded loud and obnoxiously at 6 am. She untangled herself from her blanket and pillow and rolled onto the floor. She walked to her dresser where the stupid thing continued its blaring barrage on her eardrums, then hit the button on top to shut it up. She sighed, rubbing her temples. She should invest in a less abrasive alarm clock. Maybe she would use the phone Zayd had given her as one. She didn't want to waste the battery, though. She had yet to remember to ask Zayd for the charger. He must have assumed she had one lying around somewhere. She did not.
She turned from her dresser and immediately began where she had left off with her laundry. She was about halfway finished. An hour passed and she managed to fold, hang, and put away two more loads of clothes. Suddenly, s……
