Zayd listened to Lilyan's soft breathing, watching her shoulders rise and fall as she slept. It was a wonder that she had opened up to him so much in such a short period of time, especially given her circumstances. He assumed that she really just needed a friend. It probably wouldn't have mattered who it was that had shown her kindness. She just needed someone to be there for her. He was thankful that he had been the one to step into that position. However, the reason it had been necessary was still an issue he had no solution for.
The day he introduced himself to her after he had dropped her off at her house, he had hurried back to his base. He had run inside and shut the door behind him, pulling his communicator from his shoulder bag. He plopped down onto the small sofa in the living area……
