Was omitting the truth the same as lying? Zayd wasn't sure. However, it felt like it. He locked the door behind the Kasaji brothers and turned to face a scared-looking Lilyan, still sitting on the couch with her legs curled up to her chest. She had wrapped her arms around her legs and was resting her chin on her knees, her gorgeous, crystal sapphire eyes staring up at him.
He sighed deeply and made his way back over to the couch. He sat down next to her. Instead of pulling her into his arms as he wanted to do, he turned to sit facing her. She followed his example and turned to face him as well.
“Tell me,” she said, “Tell me what you didn't want Kai to say.” Zayd took a deep breath. He had known that she would want to know immediately. She didn't like surprises. She didn't like secrets.
