I left with Grandma early in the morning to volunteer with her at the animal shelter and vet clinic. Dad was spending the day with Aunt Maddie, and Mom would run errands. I looked forward to volunteering as it had been a while since I was there. As we walked into the building, I was pleased to see that it still had that cozy and welcoming atmosphere I remembered. There were comfortable couches with adequate spacing for the clients and their pets. Paintings of cats, dogs, and other small animals decorated the walls, and the cheerful veterinarian technician I adored was working today. I had the biggest grin when I saw Riley, and she immediately left her desk to embrace me and spin me around.
