The air was thick with tension after I asked the question, and my words lingered like a bitter taste. Ethan looked over at Lukas, and I sensed something unsaid between them before Lukas spoke, his voice low and calm but with a hint of desperation.
"I need you to help take care of those people you just saw," Lukas explained, leaning forward slightly. "I have been doing it with Ethan and the guy we lost, but we need another hand. We are supposed to be in and out quickly, but at this rate, it is taking too long. We need someone who can help us finish it faster."
My gut reaction was immediate. "No. You need to get someone else. I shook my head, the words coming out faster than I could think them through. The thought of getting involved in this was overwhelming. "I already told you; I can not……
