I had barely walked through the door at work when I noticed Lira rushing toward me, her expression unreadable.
"Okay, what the hell is going on? Why did I have to lie to your parents last night?" she demanded, narrowing her eyes at me as we made our way up the stairs toward Zoraya's room and a knowing smile crept onto my face as I glanced at her.
"I'm sorry," I said, my voice soft but amused. "Keir and I went out last night, and I didn’t know my parents were going to call." Despite wanting to laugh, thinking about how caught off guard she was, I was genuinely sorry, and her eyes widened, curiosity blooming all over her face. I explained that staying out late was a last-minute thing—I had no idea Keir would take me out.
I started to walk again after saying that, but I only took one ……
