Six weeks later, Jane and Alice missed their periods and went to their gynecologists. They were both pregnant. Alice was ecstatic. Her ex, Sam, had made it a condition that they would never have children. At the time, Alice agreed, and in her twenties, she loved the freedom and access that marriage to a billionaire gave her.
They travelled at any time with no children to think about. They lived with nothing to consider but their own pleasure. Then Alice turned thirty, and realized with a cold certainty that this was her last decade to have children. Suddenly, the trips to Bali and Florence, the shopping and thrill seeking, seemed empty and lifeless. She wanted to feel life growing inside her, she wanted to experience the pangs of birth and the warmth of a baby nestling in her arm……
