Then, my phone rang. It was her.
I answered reluctantly. And then Marie spoke.
"Good evening, Miss Larson," she said, softly.
"Good evening, Marie," I replied, skeptically.
"It's good to hear your voice," said Marie, seductively.
I hesitated, trying to come up with an appropriate response. I needed to shut her down and hopefully not hurt her feelings or affect her friendship with Stephanie. Then she continued.
"I'm so glad, you're thinking about me, too. Something just clicked that first day you came into the office..."
"Marie, sweetie, I'm sorry for embarrassing you with the kiss, but you caught me off guard and I reacted inappropriately. I was..."
"You didn't embarrass me, Miss Larson, I liked it, and if you're honest with yourself, you did, too." She paused.
