“Don’t look at me like that,” I said as I felt Charlie’s glare on my back. “I tried to tell him, but he jumped up and left before I could spit the words out!”
“Tell who what? Uncle Rafe? Were you going to invite him to make Christmas cookies?” Lucy asked innocently.
I sighed and rubbed the bridge of my nose. A headache was starting to throb behind my eyes. It would soon become a migraine if I didn’t get some painkillers in my system soon. “Lucy, Uncle Rafe is going to be very busy,” I said with near-exasperation. “You know there was a fire at the resort last night. Remember that fire we lit in the dining room? Well, the fireplace wasn’t used for a long time, and it hadn’t been cleaned, and all the dirty stuff inside the chimney caught on fire.”
