I cringed away from Rafe’s temper, but at the same time…his outrage on my behalf made me feel a little vindicated. But I grasped his muscular forearm and squeezed it, trying to bring him back to the present moment. “Raphael, please,” I pleaded. “Gabe has already ruined one special outing for Lucy. Don’t let him spoil this day too.”
His nostrils flared, but I watched him take a deep breath, hold it, and then let it out slowly. He did it twice, and then I watched his shoulders relax, and the tension leave his face. It was fascinating to watch. The younger Rafe I had known could not control his temper that well. I suppose he had to learn to keep himself in check in order to run the family business.
“You’re right,” he patted my hand. “Sorry, kiddo! Let’s not talk about that today.”……
