BLAIR’S POV.
I froze in my place, nothing could have prepared me for the sight that greeted me as I entered the kitchen. There, standing beside my mother, was Valerie, her laughter filling the room like a dagger to my heart. My breath caught in my throat as I watched them expertly fold the dough for a batch of cookies. Valerie has seamlessly integrated herself into my family life.
My mother glanced up, her eyes widening in surprise at my presence. “Blair, you are home!” she exclaimed, wiping her hands on her apron and moving to embrace me. But my attention remained focused on Valerie, who met my gaze with a mocking smile.
