I allowed Dante lead me into the hall and to a dining table where he made himself comfortable at the end of the table and insisted I sat on the ground beside him.
I did not argue and I could tell that my complacent behavior was getting on his nerves but he said nothing as I settled down on the ground beside him.
I could only offer up prayers that my father and brother somehow caught a whiff that their plans were going to go haywire and decided not to come but I knew it was impossible.
If my uncle had managed to betray them as Dante had claimed then he was probably the one pushing them to their deaths.
“Nothing to say? Aren’t you going to beg me to spare them?” Dante questioned, moments later.
