DANTE's POV
I floated in and out of consciousness with my head banging unnaturally.
I had been hit pretty hard while trying to escape Santiago and it was all my fault really. I had not paid much attention to Liza and she had escaped into the woods while Santiago shot at me before he followed after her.
I had thought the bullet had been just a graze but it would seem that it was lodged somewhere in my rib… so much for not feeling pain.
The look on Francesca’s face when she had sighted the blood… I had just wanted her to know that it meant nothing and I was happy she had been afraid for me.
It had warmed my heart to look into her eyes and see the fear, knowing fully well that that emotion had been for me.
It hadn’t been one of hate or indifference but of real fea……
