Fiona - POV
A sudden flash of blinding light tore me away from the dark, eerie place, forcing my eyes shut. When I opened them again, I was somewhere entirely different—yet deeply familiar. I felt small, so small, like I was no more than a year old.
I was in the shifter dimension, playing in the garden of our old home. My father’s laughter rang through the air as he fussed over me, dressing me like a little princess. My mother’s soft smile lit up the space as she prepared one of her delicious meals. I remembered how I’d made a mess of the beautiful gown my father had picked out, spilling food everywhere. My mother knelt to clean me, her eyes sparkling with humor, her smirk gentle yet teasing. Even as a child, I had been in awe of her beauty.
