I didn’t want to leave; I wanted to stand my ground and, for once, defend myself against Lyra. But with the increasing stares and the continuous whispers that reeked of judgment from people who barely knew me, I just couldn’t stand there anymore.
The air suddenly felt suffocating, like it was sucking the life out of me, and I was slowly losing my mind. I felt dizzy, like everything was moving too fast, and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
The only thing that kept ringing in my mind was for me to leave. So, even though it would make Lyra think she had won, and would make me seem like a coward, I didn’t care. I scurried away.
The morning was cold, and the chill bit at my skin as I hurried through the woods. I had left the junkyard sale in such a rush that my feet carried me withou……
