“Can you imagine the insult that ugly sister of mine just put us through?” Lyra’s voice tore through the silence the moment the maid shut the door behind us.
I watched her storm across the room, her face red with indignation, her arms flailing dramatically as she vented her frustration.
I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the weight of her words more than I wanted to admit.
“If I were you, I’d stop calling her names,” I said, keeping my tone as neutral as possible. Lyra spun toward me, incredulous.
“Are you serious right now? Did you not hear what she said back there?” she quizzed as her eyes searched mine as if they held the answers to her questions.
But I wasn’t listening—not really. My mind was miles away, lost in thoughts of her. Ariel.
Seeing her again had been like a punch to the g……
